Negroni – invented in 1919 in Florence, by Count Camillo Negroni
The Negroni was invented in 1919 in Florence, by Count Camillo Negroni, who asked the bartender Fosco Scarselli to strengthen his favorite drink, the Americano, by replacing the soda water with gin. The addition of gin gave the cocktail a stronger character, and thus the Negroni was born.
Negroni Sbagliato: In 1967, a variant of the Negroni called “Negroni Sbagliato” (or “mistaken Negroni”) was created at the Bar Basso in Milan. In this version, gin is replaced with Prosecco, giving the drink a new, sparkling character.
